Don't Fall in Love with a Book

I fell in love with a book once. I became far too dependent on it. That would have been okay if it had needed me as much as I had needed it. With or without me, it was unchanging… And now without me, I watch it pass through plenty of hands, pleasing all that look into it. I watch it as it opens up to stranger after stranger without even flinching. Every day I hope it will come back to me, but I should know better.

I knew I shouldn’t have checked it out in the first place.

Damn you, Book. All you have left me with is this terrible idea of you and another girl in bed, staying up late, telling stories under the covers, comforting her, giving her hope, making her cry, making her laugh…

Traitor.
